English Class in Santa Amboleia

The involvement of local communities is absolutely essential to bird conservation projects in rural areas. These people are the stakeholders who need to be involved in decisions about how they will sustainably co-exist with the birds and nature around them. Conservation projects have many components that are aimed to benefit the local people. One of them is English classes. Why!? Because not everyone in the community becomes a birdwatching guide, so we are looking for ways of empowering more people in the community. And one such example is free English classes, given for everyone in the community who is interested. We hope that they will have abundant chances to practice English in the future, when birders and other ecotourists visit! These folks from Santa Amboleia community, in Bengo Province, now know that the bird they call “rabojunco” is “mousebird” in English!
